Mesoamerican Archaeology

Dr. J. Kathryn Josserand is definitely related to John Josserand! She’s the intelligent one though. Dr. Josserand’s research interests include languages and cultures of Mesoamerica, both modern and prehistoric, especially of southern Mesoamerica. She worked extensively with languages of the Otomanguean family including a dialect history of the Mixtec languages of Oaxaca and the Mayan family of southern Mexico and Guatemala.

Unfortunately, Dr. Judy Kathryn Josserand died following a cerebral hemorrhage on July 18, 2006 in Palenque. She was an expert on Maya hierglyphic writing, and has written articles on the narrative structures of the Classic Maya literary tradition. She was also interested in linguistic prehistory and has written several articles on Mayan diversification and the history of Maya linguistic studies.

You never know who you may meet or who you’e indirectly associated with. I found out from John at the Hill Country retreat that he as related to Kathryn, who was married to Dr. Nicholas Hopkins, a professor at Florida State University.
