If we are going to save our planet without getting too much in to Gaia concept, we do have several model in front of us that we could examine or embrace. I have no doubt that our planet and the entire universe is a living organism and we are just one of the neurons of that global brain (a term and book coined by Peter Russell). Unless we get a grip not so much on global warming, but on common sense in all areas of life, we’re not going to make it to 2010, let alone 2012!
I’ve already written several e-books on what I think we need to do to change the trend that’s headed to destruction, but let’s back off of the hype and get very practical. Let’s take a look at a city most have probably never heard- Gaviotas, Colombia! A Colombian secret.
Las Gaviotas? Si!
In 1971, Paolo Lugari, decided to take a land that nobody wanted, that was a wasteland, a totally nutrient starved grassland in Western Colombia and bring it to life. Some thirty six years ago, this area was nothing but a resource-starved desert that had no trees and no life in the toxic soil!
Fast forward to today and what do we find? After taking care of the land, planting two million Caribbean pine trees, developing light weight wind mills for power, underground ducts for natural air conditioning, and taking advantage of the new technologies of today, Las Gaviotas is a thriving community!
But, the developers didn’t stop with just the land, they inspired the people!
Everyone has a job! There is no poverty! There are no jails! Why do we need jails, other than for the known reasons that are preventable. Yes, preventable. Did I mention housing is free, as well as health care, and schooling. The secrets are in the open (http://www.2012Secret.com)
If this could be done in Gaviotas, Colombia of all places, why can’t it be done in America, Europe, or the Middle East? The excuses are legion! But, all it takes is a man with a vision, and a team of people who want to work together for the common good of not only the people, but the planet that sustains us and gives us life.
It’s our choice. We can work together, increase the consciousness of every man, woman, and child, or keep destroying the planet though global warming and the likes and kill ourselves off well ahead of any 2012 catastrophes.
I say Go Gaviotas!
