We are ONE with the world in som many ways that we have not a clue. Anima mundi is one such concept that reproposes that throughout the history of mankind, from ancient times, a harmonic principle controlling the laws of life on earth in all its various forms and relationships exists. Natural order and beauty are based on differences and the endless variety of species, elements, beings and systems which together form a marvelous balanced and harmonious whole. Gaia maybe- a living, breathing universe?
Plato was the first to provide a complete description of the anima mundi concept, passed down from ancient mythology when he wrote in Timeus, “…Therefore, we may consequently state that: this world is indeed a living being endowed with a soul and intelligence … a single visible living entity containing all other living entities, which by their nature are all related.”
If we could only get that! We ARE the world!
If we could then we’d simply no longer kill one another or be upset that someone believes something that we don’t. The fate of this earth, our home is in our hands, our spirit, minds, consciousness. We can rescue ourselves by rescuing the terra firma on which life is sustained. Psychologist James Hillman hit the nail on the head with this statement, “Any alteration in the human psyche resonates with a change in the psyche world“.
Thus there is a planetary, solar, and universal significane in paying attention to what it is that we believe. If we stay Muslims and Christians, if we remain Catholics and Protestants, and if we were the labels heterosexual and homosexual (to mention a few dualistic concepts), then we stay apart- separate. And when you get down to it, there is only one danger in this world (sin- if you will), and that’s separation!
And then finally, in the words or Larry Dossey, “If we are to survive, a sacred regartd for the Earth and all things in it must arise once more. One way this can come about is through the essentially spiritual act of rercovering our soul- the waking upto our non-local Self (capitalized on purpose).”
How will we respond to the challenges of 2012? We need to begin addressing that question now.
