I’m afraid we’ve bitten into the proverbial apple (which was really not an apple) that promotes the phrase thsat “ignorance is bliss“. It’s really not. But, deeper than that are the words of Carl Sagan who said, “Human misery is more often caused not so much by stupidity as by ignorance, particularly our own ignorance about ourselves”.
Technology has so quickly advanced our society and world that we’ve become lost in the data!
Regardless of how old the addage might be that is attributed to Plato, we still have not come very far in accomplishing his dictum- “know thyself“. But, we still have the opportunities, there is still time on the clock, and what we can know about ourselves, if we so choose, is amazing. What most are not aware of though is to know who we are, we have to know from whence we came. Let the arguments begin about our mythological past.
But let the discoveries be just as engaging.
As Greg Braden wrote, “We are a mysterious species of extremes and contradictions. We are capable of dreaming the most beautiful dreams and harboring the darkest nightmares, while having the power to bring each of our visions to life.” And we can do both in a span of minutes.
I asked a friend about the concept of “heaven and hell” recently and his answer validated my thoughts. He told me the story of a woman he loved so greatly and even adored. He married her and they had a child together: life was heavenly-for a season. They are now divorced and what he once though was heavenly is now a hellish nightmare. How’d that happen? How does it happen so often in life today? Tell me, how does that happen?
But why would we think that strange when many religions teach that God is LOVE and yet sends 90% of the world to HELL. Forever! Maybe it’s the proximity of hell as heaven’s guardian gate. We ALL must pass through that gate to get into the metaphorical heaven. But what about the heaven and hell right here on planet earth?
We’re moving into what I think the next fews years (can you say 2012?) will offer us that’s heavenly. I am looking forward to the collective consciousness of this planet catching up with the digital technology and uniting us with the true INNER being, the essence, the real self, and not the external ego that we exhibit. I’m ready for some spiritual enLIGHTenment. I lived was too much of an ignorant life and there’s nothing that I’ve been able to find that shows me that “church life” can or wants to change.
But, I’ve found many communities of believers who are willing to suspend their disbelief long enough to test our supposed know-it-all doctrines.
