How easy it is to scoff life, ideas, concepts, and predictions. And yet, how much more difficult it is for us to make sense of our life. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is now open for business and let’s say that it is successful. We affirm the The Higgs boson or BEH Mechanism, popularised as the “God Particle“: the hypothetical massive scalar elementary particle predicted to exist by the Standard Model of particle physics. The theory of everything! THEN WHAT?
We now know what the world looked like (or so we think) at one second after the BIG BANG!
Does that pay your mortgage for this month, keep you from filing foreclosure, make your marriage better, change your kids, or heal your body? What’s it all about Alfie? Is this as good as it gets? And all those other wonderful catch phrases. Millions of relgious followers just blindly believe a set of propositions that are mostly untrue, but it makes them feel secure. Millions of scientific atheists believe nothing that they can’t repeatedly validate in some experiment.
Where are the philosophers of old, of today?
Who can answer the truly important questions of life? What are we in control of, if anything? Why are we here in these physical shells for a few decades (if that) and then if decays and what happens to us? If there is an eternal self within this temporal self, where does it go? What does it do and in what form does it do it? Other than some sort of progressive moral game, what’s the point of reincarnation and how many times around the mountain does one go?
What can we ask for with assurances that we have an outside chance of seeing it come to fruition?
Or do we just dumb it down and like obedient and good automatons, keep getting up each day, like we did the day before, and expecting something more? Is life on an ascending, evolutionary treadmill towards WHAT? Or has life been one of spurts, convulsions, meteor strikes, volcanic mass destructions, polar flips, floods, and the like that’s reduced humanity by 50-98% from various times?
Was Lemuria good and Atlantic bad? Is the temporal self bad and the eternal self good?
Should we even ask?
