We’re facing a whole new set of circumstances going forward. It’s been said that the next century should provide us with enough information and discoveries to solve all the world’s problems. The difficulty with that is we don’t have the luxury of another 100 years to figure it all out.
We are quickly painting ourselves into a toxic corner. Have you considered the possibilities?
Global war is everywhere a possibility. And who might start it spans many options but most involve the use of atomic weapons. We’re looking at new viruses and diseases that are impervious to our myriad of drugs. Drought and starvation are real life scenarios that are on-going every day but seldom reach our TV screens.
Abrupt climate changes are making the cosmological puzzle more and more difficult to put together. And as the world’s population grows the odds of catastrophe’s like cyclone Nargis the China earthquake become more and more problematic. Tens of thousands of people dead from each event. And the death total combined could reach a quarter million.
And all of the above is from a planet-based threat level.
As we move closer to the year 2012 there are more than a hand full of solar-universe based catastrophies waiting to happen. We don’t have a century to figure things out. Who has a century to live? In 1983 we sent Pioneer 10 out past the boundaries of Plut- the first artificial object from earth to do so. It has left our solar system and headed to spaces unknown.
The last time we heard from its faint power source was Janusry 22, 2003- thirty five years later! It’s projected that it will encounter the star Aderbaran in about two million years from now. It’s carrying a message from earth. I wonder if earth will be here two million years from now with the threat levels ever increasing?
