At a one day conference on 2012 last weekend, Gregg Braden said, “Absolutely nothing will happen come December 21, 2012″. The reason is because we’re in that 2012 window NOW and stuff is already happening. But, other than the obvious physcal stuff such as unseen climate and natural disasters, what’s going on?
The path to enlightenment isn’t the one most followed by our politicians and leaders. In fact, enlightenment or spiritual awakening isn’t on their radar screen at all. It seems as though every nation has it’s answers. One would hope that the church would be of help; however, it seems to be wrapped up in providing answers to questions that no one is asking. Eugene Ionesco put it this way, “It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question.”
No one seems to be looking at the big picture!
Those who do peer over and past their own geographical boundaries are only doing so to see what others have that they might make theirs. The Middle East is one of the best examples of this principle. How can we expect the Palestinians to get along with the Israelis when Hamas can’t manage to live with Fatah? We can’t just work on the political plane alone. There must be some spiritual awakening on both sides.
Why should Israel give up more territory when the Palestinians can’t be good stewards of what they already have?
That is not a prejudicial statement. I’m not siding with Isreal for the same point can be made between Democrats and Republicans here in America. Both parties are only interested in being in power and forcing their values on the nation. I don’t need to mention Sunnis and Shiites do I? So, maybe eight years of one party and then eight years of the other party is the best way to even things out. Wait! What about a third party?
Good luck with that!
Politics definitely isn’t the path to enlightenment or spiritual awakening. Too many politicians think they have all the answers, when it’s the deep questions that we really need our poiliticians to ask. Where are the great philosophers of our day? And if we discovered them, would anyone listen? If we’re to succeed in this evolutionary journey to maturity, before we kill each other, we need to find a few!
We need to awaken the spiritual giant within us, awaken our true soul, awaken to the Spirit that is within all of us. ALL! Annamarie Schimmel said, “Once the journey to God is finished, the infinite journey in God begins.” On this side of our releasing our physical bodies, the journey is never finsihed and unfortuantely, it’s seldom seriously begun by most. The Buddha gets credit for putting it this way, “All things arise and pass away, but the awakend awake forever.” Jesus simply said, “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” How do we relate to this challenges in our lives, or do we?
Is there anyone who would doubt that adversity is increasing as planet earth gets more and more inhabited, and as a result smaller and smaller? What most of the major religions felt a hundred years ago was a peace about the inherent principles embraced by those individual religions because the same mindset was in the neighbors.
No longer.
Our neighbors are today much different than we. But, on the other hand, our neighbors are the same as we. We are ALL children of God. We may speak a different language, have skin color that’s markedly different than others around us, but we all come from the same God- for there is but ONE GOD! Too often we let our religion get in the way of loving people. Too often we let the word God get in the way of being “Godly” .
The only way we will find out is to go within: that’s where we must begin.
And when we come out from our visit within, we need to carry that same peace that we found there with us throughout the day. Since we all come from the same place and will end up back there together, why don’t we try and exercise a little more patience, tolerance, and love for one another while we’re here experiencing this thing called humanity. It really can be a good thing- if we’ll just let it.
Awaken giant within for this dwarf in the mirror isn’t getting the job done!
Maybe it’s wishful thinking. I would even settle for a self-fulfilling prophecy. But, above all, my life has been dedicated in one form or fashion to seeing transformation- in everything! I sought it in me, in business, in politics, and finally in religion. Maybe it’s about the times, maybe man can’t work outside of nature, the planet, the universe, or God. After all God is the one who brings and is the real transformation- the Transformer!
But what if this is the time- a time of getting ready and preparing for something that’s been on the radar screen forever. As Richard Tarnas said, “One need not be graced with prophetic insight to recognize that we are living in one of those rare ages, like the end of classical antiquity or the beginning of the modern era, that brings forth, through great stress and struggle, a genuinely fundamental transformation in the under-lying assumptions and principles of the cultural world view.”
If one can step back from the world for a sacred moment, we might hear something amazing.
We can’t keep going in the direction that we’re going for very much longer, without ending up where we are headed. And, where we’re headed doesn’t feel right, isn’t good, nor do we really want to continue on. There are so many uncertainties facing us now. On our own we’re not capable of solving the problems of racial bias, moral realativism, economic shame, and separation from our true self.
There is a spiritual dimension to life that goes deeper than we know.
Something is dying, and we must let it happen because something is about to be born. How, when, where who could possibly know. But this I do believe. We have been given all the resources that are needed. The cure is in our spirits. We’re not standing outside looking in. We’re IN and have BEEN for all of eternity. Waking up to where we ARE and who we BE (I know, bad English) is what’s needful. We need deeper insight to the unconscious forces that await our engagement.
I don’t know if 2012 has any spiritual significance. I totally believe it has astrological, scientific, and physical consequences for our world. But I do know that the future, and not that many years into the future, has to be different than what we are now experiencing. We were not created for the life we’re now living. How much longer will we keep pretending?
How much longer indeed. It’s time for a great transformation!
