Axial Age

There have been great moments and events in the history of the world. However, most of the things that have occurred did so slowly. Evolution is sometimes better than revolution, but then there are times when, like 65 million years ago, a meteorite stuck our planet and everything changed in an instant.

German philosopher Karl Jaspers coined the term, “Axial Age”, to describe the period from 800-200 BCE, during which time revolutionary thinking appeared in China, India and the Occident. Jaspers saw common developments in religion and philosophy in these regions without any obvious direct transmission of ideas from one region to the other, having found no recorded proof of any extensive inter-communication between Ancient Greece, the Middle East, India and China. Jaspers held up this age as unique, and one to which the rest of the history of human thought might be compared.

Are we now headed toward what history might refer to as Axial Age II?

If the radical consciousness which the world experienced then was as great as it was in such a sort period of time, how much greater, exponentially, could it be now?

Radical changes of the old forms of religious thinking are happening everywhere. The Catholic church is reeling, and mainline Protestants denominations are buckling. As Neale Donald Walsch wrote, “Yesterday’s God cannot serve tomorrow’s world. Any influence the established religions once held is rapidly diminishing in much of the West. We find ourselves once again on the cusp of an important religious experiment.” But rest assured, no area of life will be untouched. A great awakening is on the way…

Coming Axial Age II

I don’t have the “names” of great people to put forth for this coming era; however, they are there. But most importantly, I believe that we are looking at a “collective consciousness” hat is arising that will make Axial Age II different than the initial age 2,500 years ago. Times they are a changing. The water in the kettle has been rising ever so slowly that few realize what’s happening.

Everyone is so tied to the internet and yet it did not exist two decades ago. What would we do without email which has only been the replacement for the likes of mail and telephone in the last decade? And who among us remembers that antique called a typewriter, now that we have computers? These are culturally altering innovations in just the last few years and they are the fuel of consciousness and spiritual changes coming in the next five.

Many scientists, astronomers, astrologists, and others are looking into the heavens and predicting dire consequences for 2012. We’re hearing about unique galactic plane crossings, pole shifts, planet encounters, and a host of issues that seem to be all coming in a 2012 perfect storm.

Could it be, or could it be that we’re headed to a time when all of mankind realizes that we’re all in this together and it’s time that we become ONE and face the issues that are not only “out there” as I’ve just mentioned, but that we face the problems within us. We have built too many destructive devices for us to be at odds with one another, particularly in a deeply religious excitement.

May we not see and axis shift but an axis (axial) era of super-charged consciousness!
