What is a collective consciousness? Might it happen before December 21, 2012? Could the world unravel and could we destroy the planet before 12.21.2012? Hey, all things are possible; however, some things are more PROBABLE than others. I rate the building, growing, and coming collective consciousness as among the more probable events over the next 30 or so months.

Maybe a definition of “collective consciousness”, or an attempt at such a definition should be a starting point.

So, let’s begin with the obscure Richard Mauric Bucke who wrote a book (more than 100 years ago) entitled Cosmic Consciousness. In it he came to a definition that was a “sense of the deep unity of all parts of the universe and of the amazing LOVE binding it all together which was to be the next step in the development of humans. That works for me. How was he on to such a concept in the late 1800′s?

Some people are just more attuned to the universal consciousness than others!

Breaking this concept into some small edible pieces we might say that the collective cosmic consciousness is a planetary illumination: a time when a tipping point number of people log on to the cosmic computer that’s often called God. Is it the square root of 1% (of whatever number) that Gregg Braden embraces? It is also an intellectual enlightenment, maybe as a result of the COSMIC BRAIN that Peter Russell speaks and that French priest-scientists Pierre Teilhard de Chardin mentions and labels as the NOOSPHERE.

Are we coming to a digital-internet-electronic nervous system that binds us all together?

Is this what indigenous cultures called the homo luminous? So many questions, so few answers; however, this we should be able to recognize. The consciousness of the planet, and even the solar system, is evolving very rapidly. We’ve not been here before- or have we? While it’s very easy to see that things around the planet are falling into chaos quickly, is it not true that out of chaos (Genesis 1) comes order?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Many prophesies in the indigenous world speak of this time in human history as a period of great transformation. In the medicine tradition of the Inca, legend tells of a great angel who looked into the future and saw that humanity would face an enormous task at the beginning of the 21st century. The Mayans calendar with an ending date of December 21, 2012 of course is well known. So, what’s it all mean?

The answer may be found in the Koshima monkey findings in 1952!

In case you’ve not heard of this, here is the story in a brief version. A tribe on monkeys (Koshima) were given sweet potatoes dipped in sand. They liked the potatoes but hated the grit from the sand. After a few months of watching, one monkey discovered that he could dip the potato in the water and wash off the sand. Over the next SIX years a few of his siblings got the idea and began to do the same.

And we thought we were slow?

Not to be lost in this message is the fact that the ADULTS kept on eating gritty sweet potatoes: it was only the younger ones who followed the new way to clean the sand off. For some reason there appeared a moment when suddenly they ALL began to wash off their potatoes. Thus, such a turn in behavior is called the 100th monkey (not that it was a literal number). But, that’s not the most interesting part.

As the monkey washing of the sweet potatoes went ape (pun intended), monkeys on other islands, with no contact, started doing the same. It’s as if when a critical number of monkeys achieved awareness a FIELD was built and all monkeys around the world did the same. Gregg Braden has determined that the formula or number is the square root of one percent of the total population.

Thus, with a world population of six billion people, it only takes eight thousand to focus on something to change it.

The world is not limited to nor explained by Newtonian physics: at least not totally. The fact that the 2012 meme is building and only has a little less than three years to happen doesn’t mean we’re running out of time. We already have in place all that’s needed to change the world in a nanosecond. Out of nowhere, in the twinkling of an eye, homo luminous can spring into being and the world will never be the same again!

Do you remember the days when East & West (Occidental & Oriental) were like two different worlds? Maybe you’re not old enough. But what should be obvious as the digital world has been ushered in over the last twenty years is that our planet is getting really small, with lots of people, and fewer and fewer resources.

Most people cannot fathom the size and scope of our solar system, let alone our galaxy.

But, how about the size of the universe? Or, are the multi and parallel universes out there? With the advent of fractal geometry, it’s becoming obvious that everything is connected and that everything is a part of a larger part which is part of a larger part, ad infinitum. We are living organisms which are a part of Gaia (planet earth) and other very large organisms. Furthermore, quantum physics is wrecking havoc with our Newtonian concepts wherein we were once so secure.

Just how connected are we and to what?

The Mayan calendar has birthed many cottage industries. While the date December 21, 2012 has gotten the attention of the world, some of their more metaphysical and philosophical beliefs deserve our attention as well. As an example the Mayan traditional greeting is- In Lak’ech Ala K’in which tranlates into English as “I am another yourself.” That throws many people into a dither much like Christianity’s God calling himself: I AM.

I AM what?

I AM that, and that, and that, and that! We ARE what we choose to be. But we are also a part of the whole which is huge. We are a part of a greater cosmic consciousness and we couldn’t extricate ourselves from that if we tried- and many do!
