The Harmonic Convergence of August 16-17, in 1987 was a New Age astrological term applied to a unique planetary alignment. The timing of the Harmonic Convergence allegedly correlated with the Maya calendar. The chosen dates have the distinction of allegedly marking a planetary alignment with the Sun, Moon and six out of eight planets being part of the “grand trine”. One of the principal organizers of the Harmonic Convergence event was José Argüelles.

According to Argüelles’ interpretation of Mayan cosmology, the selected date marked the end of twenty-two cycles of 52 years each, or 1,144 years in all. The twenty-two cycles were divided into thirteen “heaven” cycles, which began in AD 843 and ended in 1519, when the nine “hell” cycles began, ending 468 years later in 1987.While that may seem like Greek to many, the coming Conscious Convergence may not.

While most are fixated on December 21, 2012, Carl Johan Calleman thinks the right date is October 28, 2011.

Carl writes, “Over the time period since the Harmonic Convergence an increasing number of people have come to directly experience states of unity with all things and a purposeful direction in their own lives. Yet, although sometimes such experiences may have been enlightening or blissful, they have not come to alter the way our world at large operates.” According to Calleman, that may all change come July 17-18, 2010.

Why would 2010 be different than 1987?

Three Mayan elders, Don Alejandro Oxlaj, Don Rigoberto Itzep and Hunbatz Men, have pledged to participate in the Conscious Convergence, July 17-18, 2010 through performing ceremonies on these dates. The three elders are among the most respected and well-known representatives of the Mayan people yet having somewhat different roles in this tradition. Do these three men hold any power or sway over the collective consciousness of the planet?

We shall soon see!

That there is a shift in consciousness I have no doubt. Regardless of the many dates that have been stated as important, what’s more real for me is the “season” that we’ve entered. Are we crossing the Galactic plane, entering a powerful photon belt, or just arriving at the appointed time? Whatever it IS, it IS BIG and it will transform the earth and the inhabitants of this third rock from the sun forever. Time will tell, but we are now in the proverbial “cat-bird seat, and you WILL SEE IT COMING!

No one knows for sure how the Mayans developed their calendar and had such incredible insights into the galaxy and universe. There are some simple techniques that could lead them to some conclusions without telescopes or computers; however, there are other things that they knew that only some connection with the divine could know.

What did they know, when did they know it, and most importantly HOW did they know?

The Mayans knew the ecliptic path of the constellations, the timing of solstices, equinoxes, and zenith passage of the sun, solar sun spot cycles, the exact length of a solar year, length of precession, wobble and tilt of the earth, and so much more than our scientific community has only recently discovered.

Who of you that are reading this even know what the above paragraph is saying?

Many have theorized that with crossed sticks, line of sight reasoning, and five hundred pus years of observation that “some things” could be deduced. But, how could they know abut the earth’s position in the galaxy? Explain that one with sticks and stuff. N line of sight from the earth can reveal such information.

So, was it what they were smoking? Was it the peyote cactus, the smoked mushrooms, and the other hallucinogenic plants that were in abundance? How were their shamans able to conduct psychic surgery and other healing rites? Were their ceremonial trances somehow open portals to the divine causeway? Did they have an understanding of divine cosmic energy that we’ve yet to discover?

We may never know the answers and then again, we may in the next few years as some of the 400 Mayan elders begin to release hitherto-fore unknown books that have remain hidden: only to be released before 12.212012. We can blow off such indigenous tribes as the Mayans but they are only ONE of the dozens of historical cultures that have given us warnings about December 21, 2012, or the period around that date.

The Mayan mysteries will remain as such for at least a few more years, or maybe months!

The Y2k phenomenon was a computer generated paranoia that came and went in a matter of 3-7 years. Those that compare 12.21.2012 to 01.01.2000 are missing the boat entirely. The 2012 phenomena is a 10,000 year concept at the least. More importantly, it’s not a left brain generated event; rather, it’s a right brain, spiritual, shamanic, and mythical story.

The Mayan 2012 calendar is just one of the dozens (actually more than a hundred) of indigenous cultures that have passed down both written and oral traditions about pending events surrounding the date December 21, 2012. What is obvious to sociologists is that each generation establishes some distinctiveness of its own- without even trying.

Is that too hard to see?

The 1940s were greatly different than the 1960′s. It was a time of war versus a time of peace (can you say flower children?). The 1990′s were different than the 1980′s. What’s become obvious is that when we’re using the word generational, it no longer applies to a standardized 40 year period. And the generations get shorter and shorter.

The digitized world with exponential information flows is carrying the ball.

Changes in the way people think and behave or what’s become a fad to call “consciousness” is ever increasing a generational or cultural paradigm almost overnight. And so it is with 2012. While 2012 has been around for tens of thousands of years, it’s only been in the last two decades that the Mayan calendar has been brought into mainstream thinking. And it’s only been in the last 5 years of so that the amount of publicity has been working it’s way into the societal consciousness.

I would submit to you that over the next three years, the 2012 concept will grow into as world wide consciousness along with the attendant attitudes which cover the spectrum of possibilities and contradictions. This fall the first of dozens of “2012 movies” will hit the market and 2012 opinions will be influenced by Hollywood to a large degree, albeit it wrongly so.

We’re yet to enter the true 2012 HYPE, but we’re surely on the way to creating a new culture.
